GL Check
GLCheck tests specifically for evidence of abnormally high sugar levels in your
blood by testing for glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1C).
Much of the food we eat is turned into sugar for our bodies to use as energy. If
the sugar is not used efficiently, or if we eat more carbohydrates than we need,
the excess is easily turned into fat. Haemoglobin (Hb) molecules are a component
of the red blood cells in blood which contain iron and carry oxygen around the
body. Excess sugar molecules can "stick" to the haemoglobin molecules, making
them not work so well. This is called glycosylated haemoglobin (also known as
HbA1C). GLCheck measures your glcosylated haemoglobin (HbA1C). Tests based on
measuring HbA1C are widely used in hospitals as the basis for screening for and
monitoring of diabetes. Careful monitoring using GLCheck allows for early detection
of risk for diabetes, and associated conditions.
How does the test work?
The test is carried out from the comfort of your home and there is no need to
go to a clinic or visit a specialist. When you place an order, a test kit is sent
to you in the post, which contains everything you need to collect a small blood
sample. Once the sample is collected, it should be returned to us the same day
to be analysed at our laboratories.
What does the pack include ?
Your laboratory results- which provide a unique colour codedGLCheck score based
on your HbA1C result. Results guidebook- providing a detailed explination of your
results plus general advice on reducing the key risk affecting diabetic health.
